Kill Workplace Stress In Less Than Two Minutes

ways to ease stress at workWork without stress just isn’t work. It’s inevitable to avoid stress in your work life completely, especially if you work a job where others rely on you heavily or deadlines are short and important. So while you can’t avoid stress, you can work to eliminate it, leaving your mind clear and your body ready to go. And it doesn’t take long to work that magic. Try any of these techniques for just two minutes and you’ll be back in the game in no time

1)Reach For Something Healthy

If you feel an afternoon crash coming on, the headache start to weasel its way into your mind, don’t run for a cup of coffee that will only leave you worse off than before. Instead, grab a banana or an apple. The foggy mind may have more to do with stomach pains than stress and both a glass of water along with a healthy fruit snack will help clear things up. Bananas contain potassium which can eliminate cramps from sitting for extended periods of time and apples are known for their quick rejuvenating abilities. If you don’t have the foresight to  pack a snack beforehand, sign up for office fruit delivery service Fruitfuloffice.co.uk. With a basket of fruit waiting for you in the break room, you’ll be less than thirty seconds away from a pick-me-up that will get you back on the right track.

2)Remember Your Breathing

The effects of stress on your psyche don’t have to be documented for you to realize how troubling and frustrating it is. What you may not realize is that stress has a physical toll on your body as well, and may even lead to early death as one disconcerting study has shown. Chronic stress leads to increases of Cortisol, leading in turn to increases in blood pressure, cholesterol and heart disease. When you feel your blood pressure rising and your body getting tense, stop what you’re doing, close your eyes and breathe. It’s possibly one of the most underrated stress relief techniques available and less than two minutes of it will produce amazing results. Focus only on your breathing, the long inhales through your nose and the lengthened exhales through your mouth. When you finally open your eyes you’ll find you’re far more focused and evenly paced.

3) Get Moving

GET OUT OF YOUR CHAIR. Yes, you. Seriously, get up. Your body is probably tense, tired and lethargic from sitting hunched over your desk or staring at a computer screen. Take a lap around the office and roll your shoulders, bend your neck and throw your hands above your head. If you’re really serious about getting rid of that tension hanging on to your muscles, do a couple of jumping jacks or push ups. Exercise releases endorphins that will brighten your mood and put a smile on your face. You simply can’t argue with science. Simple movement will get you out of your head and into the moment – a place that is much better than the stack of papers sitting on your desk.

The main thing to remember is to listen to your body. It will tell you when it’s being pushed too hard. It’s up to you to take steps to improve it.

  1. Nah, chill out. Work is work. It doesn’t define you as a human being, there’s more to life than being clocked inside the workplace all the time. Constant communication with one of your loved ones can really help you during a stressful time in work. You can also talk to strangers at your workplace, just make sure they aren’t that busy as you talk to them.
