If you ask anyone what their goals are for a given year, there’s a good chance that “make more money” is going to be one of the most popular answers. Everyone wants to make more money, yet most people would prefer to not have to think about finding a new job in order to do so. Fortunately, you don’t need to get an entirely new job if all you’re looking to do is pad your bank account; you can do this by staying right where you are. It’s not always easy, but there are a few methods that you can take advantage of in order to make more money while still keeping your current job.
Consider the following tips, each of which will help you to make more money.
Get That Raise
Most people shudder at the thought of asking for a raise. Indeed, the conversation can be very difficult to bring up, especially if you’ve never asked for a raise at your job before. If you’re doing your best and showing up on time each and every day, however, there’s a good chance that you deserve a raise if you’ve been working the same job for at least a year.
Some people ask for raises at the six month mark, although this can sometimes be poor practice. Once a year has passed, ask your boss if he or she would be willing to sit down for a review of your performance. Come into the review with materials that prove your track record for success, and don’t hesitate to say that you feel you deserve more money. It’s best to have a figure in mind; a percentage of what you already make, perhaps. The more confident you are, the better your chances of getting that raise.
Pursue Higher Education
There’s no such thing as reaching a plateau when it comes to learning. You can always learn more, and by doing so you can improve your chances of making more money. If your employer sees that you’re attending a school for professionals when not at work, he or she is likely to be impressed and may even offer you a raise without you even having to ask. You might want to consider business administration classes, which are perfect for those who have interest in learning more about how to run a business from the ground up.
Embrace Commission Structures
Those who work in sales or other positions where commission is part of the pay scale know that it’s possible to make as much money as one wants so long as the right amount of work is put in. If you work on commission, be sure to study the structure as well as possible so that you can maximize your income while streamlining your workflow. Putting more effort into prospecting and lead generation can also be effective in this scenario, even if it causes you to have to put in more hours each week. Commission can be a love/hate situation, but there’s no denying that you can make good money if you put your mind to it under these pretenses.
Making more money can help you to improve every aspect of your life, and doesn’t have to be as difficult as it might seem.
