Get Your Finances on Track for the New Year and a $100 Giveaway

Happy New Year!  Another holiday season has come and gone. Hopefully you aren’t in a cold sweat waiting for this month’s credit card bill!  One nice thing about a new year is the opportunity it brings for change if you aren’t where you would like to be with your finances.  What would you like to accomplish this year? Pay off debt, save for an emergency fund, stop living paycheck to paycheck, save for retirement? Maybe you had a great 2012 and want to continue on the same path.  January is a great month for taking a look at your finances and making plans for upcoming year. What Are Your Goals? Goals kind of get changed or forgotten if no one knows what they are. Take some time to put down what you would like to accomplish this year. I like to have some goals that I know I can accomplish with a little effort and some stretch goals to really try my hardest.  An easy goal might be to save $50 a month toward an emergency fund or to put toward debt. A stretch goal might be to pay off all credit card debt by the end of the year. ...

December Goals

Wow, it’s almost the end of the year. They just go faster the older you get. I used to roll my eyes when my parents said this, but, as with many things, they were right. December is a whole month of celebrating from the parade last weekend to school parties and programs, to our office Christmas party, for which I am cooking for 15 people! After Christmas, we are heading to see my side of the family in Kentucky. I’ll be gone from the 30th to the 4th, and my mom does not have a very up to date computer. I also don’t want to spend my time off online. I am asking for some awesome blogger friends who might like to submit a guest post for that week to please step forward. I could pre-schedule something, but I won’t be able to comment and interact like normal. I will be forever in your debt and  be happy to return the favor should you ever need to unplug. On to the goals….. Blog Goals 1. Do at least one guest post or blog swap a month. PASS. I did three blog swaps and a guest post.  I hope to do at least ...

Do Your Purchases Reflect Your Values?

Today I am very excited to be doing a Blog Swap. Be sure to head over to Mandy’s site to read about my first real passport trip and what it taught me.  Also, don’t miss out on your chance to win $100. My name is Mandy and I’m the author of a blog called Money Master Mom.  I’d like to help you align your spending, time and energy with your values. Back in the day when we had satellite TV (we cut it because it was providing us little value, and was costing us a lot of time) I watched Survivor.  I enjoyed the episode where they brought food in front of the starving contestants and then auctioned it off.  Some items provided little value for the contestants and resulted in low bids, but other items, like a cheeseburger, provided high value and bidding wars ensued.  It was an interesting display how value and cost can sometimes vary a great deal. If you want to make the most of your money you need to match your spending with your personal values.  Take some time to consider what purchases provide you with a great deal of satisfaction; these purchases are high value buys. ...

October 2012 Goals

October is here, my favorite time of year. I have always loved Halloween, and when you have a small child, you have an excuse to decorate and carve some pumpkins. I made Rapunzel and Tinkerbelle ones last year, so we’ll see if I can top that. September was such a blur with our trip to Las Vegas, a yard sale, and the work on our first rental property. I’m almost afraid to look back at my goals and see how I did last month. Blog Goals 1. Publish content at least four times a week until I have 30 posts done. PASS. I’m over 30 posts now and will keep my goal at publishing a new post on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, with a roundup on Saturday. 2.Comment on at least five blogs each day, with three new ones per week.PASS. I love doing this. I usually do at least 10, and I’m starting to get my list of the ones I really enjoy and want to follow more closely. I’ll keep this goal the same for October. 3.Learn at least one new thing on WordPress per week.PASS.I installed a SEO plugin, but I still need to work on keywords and such. I ...
