Things That Go Wrong

Stack of MoneyWhy You Sometimes Might Need Money Fast

Isn’t it always the way that something will wrong and will need fixing straight away, the day you spend your last dollar before payday. We all know how important is it to have an emergency fund. Savings gives you piece of mind to deal with anything that might happen. However, in some instances, the emergency fund might not have enough to handle life’s emergencies or you may not be able to get to your money after hours. That’s why it’s good to have a back-up. What do you do if you need money straight away and your savings account can’t be accessed?

If you’re really in a fix, an online loan company like Wonga can help get you out of a bind.  What kind of problems might occur that need money fast?

  • Broken Lock – It’s been playing up for ages, but you get home from work this evening and the key won’t turn at all. The door’s wooden and your lounge window is much too big to break. You phone the locksmith who tells you he can be out to you in a jiffy, but he only accepts cash.
  • Car Breakdown. Now you wish you’d listened to your friends, when they were telling you to get breakdown cover. The Tow Truck can be with you within the hour, but… they only take cash.
  • Hot Water Boiler that won’t heat up – It’s freezing outside and you’ve been dying to get in a lovely hot bath all day. Instead you’re treated to an icy stream of cold water. The plumber’s on his way, but he wants paying up front.
  • Poorly Cat – You get home from work and the cat’s eyeball looks like something out of a horror film. He was trying to beat the Tom cat down the round into submission, but he’s been caught by the Tom’s famous left claw. The pet insurance ran out two months ago, the Vet is new in town and won’t offer credit until he knows you better.
  • Broken Window – Your other half told you not to try to move the bookcase by yourself. But, you’ve got no patience and you want it on the corner by the window. Unfortunately as you’re moving it, a large Spider decides he doesn’t want to move and jumps out of the bookcase on onto your head, you scream and let go of the bookcase and now it’s in the corner, through the window. The glazier says it’s no problem, as long as you can pay him immediately.
  • Kitchen Fire – You like things the old fashioned way, so you’ve refused to buy an electric fryer, what’s wrong with a chip pan? Nothing, just as long as you don’t forget about it, while you enjoy a nice glass of Chablis in front of the TV. The Fireman says it was lucky all the doors were shut and they were nearby, but it’s not a good idea to sleep in the house tonight because of the smoke fumes. Best to find a hotel for the night.

As you can see there are lots of things that go wrong and only having the cash there and then will do! You can access the Wonga site online, it takes a few minutes to fill in the application form and if you are approved the money can be in your bank within 15 minutes. Then all you need to do is….find an ATM!

  1. Ironically the cat situation actually happened to us, though it was because of old age and not a cat fight. We’ve spent about 350 on her since having to bring her into the ER on a Sunday afternoon. Definitely glad I started an emergency fund or I would have had to charge it.

  2. If my cat’s eyes looked like something out of a horror movie I would just look at him and say, “lil’ buddy, it is time…” and then I would kick him outside and let nature handle the rest. Such is life.

Seriously though, I have an emergency fund for things like this and of course do everything in my power to avoid situations like the ones you listed above.

    • Emergency funds are vital to helping kitties or kiddos or whatever else goes wrong. You should see my poor dog’s eye.She has a congenital problem, but it’s perfect because I have access to lots of drops!

  3. Agreed. These are just a few of the many things that can go wrong anytime and can ruin your budget. We used to have problems with our locks and windows….That’s true emergency funds are great to have. But when you’re not disciplined, it’s quite difficult to save cash every time you get your salary.
