The Lemonade Stand Review and iPad Mini Giveaway

Lemonade Stand book and iPad giveaway

I am happy today to be reviewing The Lemonade Stand by Shannon Ryan. The Lemonade Stand is a book aimed at children 4-9 years old and it offers a lesson in financial literacy wrapped up in a cute story line. The Lemonade Stand discusses how to save, spend and share and explains how buying what makes your heart happy is much better than instant gratification. The Lemonade Stand is easy to read and has illustrations that would keep children of non-reading age entertained. I really like how the book shows kids how to use income minus expenses from their lemonade sale to determine profit. You’re never too young to be an entrepreneur! Since I have a 7 year old, I though I’d let her share what she learned after reading the book. “Well, if you want something, it’s better to work together and save your money. Like if you want a puppy, you have to save for a long time, but it’s better than just buying little, junky things at the Dollar Store.” If you’d like to get a copy of The Lemonade Stand from The Heavy Purse website, I have a coupon code for $3 off. It’s TOUR3114. Now on ...

Miche Handbag Review and Giveaway

Miche handbag review

I guess it’s safe to say that I’m not really a girly girl. I don’t get excited over shoes and handbags. I honestly can’t tell the difference between a purse that costs $50 vs one that costs $2000. I think it should be a crime to pay 4 figures for a handbag, but I guess if that’s what you value and can afford it, knock yourself out. I am, however, often in professional situations where my Jansport mini-backpack just won’t cut it. Often a first impression is what counts, fair or not. A couple of years ago, I decided to get a big girl purse, but it had to also pass my test for holding 14 million kiddo things while also looking stylish, being durable, and not costing a fortune. Enter the Miche handbag. Miche was kind enough to send me a cute clutch ( I learned some handbag terms in writing this  post) to try out and review, but I already have been using their products for a while. The neat thing about Miche is that you buy the internal shell, called a base bag, which holds all your stuff, and then you can buy outer shells to either ...

Bonfire Night- A Great Reason to Give Away Cash

Bonfire Day

One of the benefits of blogging in the personal finance realm has been “meeting” people from all over the globe and learning we are all different but very much the same, at least in financial thinking anyway. I love learning about holidays celebrated in other countries, and I love giveaways, so thanks to Graham at Moneystepper, today we are learning about Bonfire Night or Guy Fawkes Night that is celebrated mainly in Great Britain. Guy Fawkes was a member of the Gunpowder Plot, which was an attempt to blow up the House of Lords and kill King James I. Mr. Fawkes must not have been the best plotter because he was arrested on November 5, 1605 while guarding the stash of explosives. Everyone was so happy that the king was not blown up, they decided to celebrate with bonfires. Nothing like some good pyromania! Over the years, the holiday turned into a religious mess with Catholics and Protestants arguing over burning popes in effigies. I kind of got lost in understanding that period. Can’t we all just get along? By the 20th century, everyone got over themselves, and the holiday pretty much stopped with religious and political stuff. Now ...

Movember, Time to Grow Your Mustache and a Giveaway!

When Todd from Fearless Dollar asked me to be a part of this giveaway, I agreed because mustaches are hilarious. While I’m not able to grow one myself, thank goodness, I know there are lots of guys out there who aren’t shaving this month, and it’s all for a good cause. Movember.com was a movement started a decade ago out of a simple idea to promote men’s health issues. It began with prostate cancer awareness and has spread to testicular cancer and mental health. If you think women are bad about discussing health issues, men are a million times worse. How many of you avoid the doctor because you don’t like to turn and cough? I’ve also seen personally how men with mental illness are not accepted socially or even within their families. Being told to “man up” when mental illness is the cause of your problems doesn’t really do much good. The good news is that many outcomes of these diseases can be prevented or greatly reduced with the right preventative and ongoing medical care. Hopefully, men, you’ll grow your ‘stache proudly this month and show your support for the men’s health issues supported by Movember Have you seen ...
