Can’t Take My Eyes Off These Blogs #19- I’m on Vacation

I’ll be leaving tomorrow for a week in Kentucky to visit my family. If you could hear my voice as I write this, my twang is getting more pronounced as the minutes tick by. My husband thinks Southern is a whole different language and is amazed at how fluent I can be when the filter is turned off. Kentucky is a beautiful state and one of the only places I know where you can smoke AND buy fried chicken in every convenience store. I might be unplugged next week, so if you don’t hear from me, I haven’t forgotten you. I do have a couple of awesome guest posts and a giveaway lined up for next week, so stop by. It was a short week with the holidays, but there was lots going on the the blogosphere. Exciting news this week: Michelle got engaged. Congratulations! Mentions Eyes on the Dollar got some holiday love from these fine folks: Debt Roundup included my best financial tipin the Best Personal Finance Tips of 2012. My advice to stop being afraid was also shared by I Heart Budgets and Luke 1428. Frugal Rules  and Street Smart Finance were fans ...

Can’t Take My Eyes Off These Blogs #15-RIP JR Ewing Edition

We just got back last night from our Thanksgiving holiday visit, so I haven’t been up to my normal amount of reading, commenting, and sharing. That whole 12+ hours in the car over 3 days kind of puts a kink in the computer work. I was, however, quite shocked to read the Larry Hagman, a.k.a  J.R. Ewing on the TV show Dallas passed away yesterday. For anyone who grew up in the 80’s with a Southern Mama, you probably watched Dallas on Friday night. I always thought J.R. was too mean to die, but I guess when your time is up…. This week I was lucky enough to blog swap with Frugal Rules. If you surround youself with smart people or blogs in this case, maybe some of it rubs off by osmosis? Anyway, you can read my post about Being an Advocate for Your Own Health Care and John’s post about Budgeting with an Irregular Income. Pauline linked my guest post on her Friday recap. Mr. CBB liked them so much he included both, plus my leftover turkey recipe on his weekly blog post picks. Thanks so much! There was so much link love this week, I feel like the Grinch when his heart ...

Can’t Take My Eyes Off These Blogs #10-Ed McCaffrey Edition

Another Saturday, where does the time go? Today, we went to see Eddie McCaffrey, former receiver for the Denver Broncos. A new sporting goods store was opening up, and apparently he’s the main attraction. I wouldn’t drive an hour to meet most NFL players, but steady Eddie was always a good role model and a great team player. Plus, my husband was a big fan. The only other famous person I’ve ever met at a meet and greet was Slash at an optometry convention of all places. Can’t imagine what he thought of the crowd! Eyes on the Dollar was mentioned in quite a few places this week. Thanks so much for sharing. It’s so fun to see those pingbacks pop up. Please let me know if I missed anyone. Can’t Take My Eyes Off These Blogs #9-Brothel Edition

I’m sure everyone has been waiting on pins and needles for my weekly roundup, which is a day late. The family spent the weekend in Moab, UT in a cabin at one of the campgrounds. When we arrived, we noticed that the cabins were named after establishments in an old west town, like the saloon, blacksmith, sheriff, etc. Driving up to our cabin, we were quite thrilled to see that we were staying in the “Brothel.” I’ve giggled all weekend. Can’t wait to go to work on Monday and have someone ask what we did this weekend. “We stayed at the brothel!” The fun never ends. Eyes on the Dollar was mentioned in quite a few places this week. Thanks for reading and sharing.
